About Gold Value Chart

Values on this page use gold spot at $4,141.50/oz · updated

Gold Value Chart is a reference site for one question: what is gold worth right now? Gold is $4,141.50 per troy ounce as of October 5, 2026, and the rest of the site converts that single figure into the forms people actually need, from a gram of 14K to a kilogram bar. We built it because most gold price pages show the market number and stop, leaving you to do the arithmetic for your ring, your coin or your scrap.

Who we are

The site is written and maintained by the Gold Value Chart Editorial Team, a small independent publisher. We do not claim professional credentials as dealers, assayers, appraisers, financial advisers or tax preparers, and nothing here replaces advice from one of them. What we do is read primary sources, check the arithmetic, and explain it in plain language. Where a page makes a claim about a rule, a standard or a coin specification, it is drawn from a public source such as the US Mint, the LBMA, the IRS or the CFTC, and those are linked where they apply.

We are independent of any gold dealer, refiner or mint. We recommend one company on the site, and we are paid if you buy through our link. How that works is set out under the advertising disclosure below.

Where our gold values come from

Two named data sources feed every number on the site.

  • Spot price. The headline figure and every value table are based on the live gold spot price (XAU, in US dollars per troy ounce) from gold-api.com. Spot is the going price for immediate delivery of one troy ounce of pure gold.
  • Chart history. The one-year chart and the ten-year table use daily closes of COMEX gold futures (ticker GC=F), retrieved through Yahoo Finance. Futures settle for later delivery, so they normally sit a little above spot. At the moment the gap is +$26.10, or about +0.6% of the price. We label which series each figure comes from so you can tell them apart.

Everything else is calculated from those two series. A value per gram is spot divided by 31.1034768, the number of grams in a troy ounce. A karat value multiplies that by the karat's purity, such as .583 for 14K. Coin and bar tables multiply fine gold weight by spot. No number on the site is typed in by hand; each one is generated from the live figures at the time the page is built.

How often values refresh

The site is rebuilt automatically, which refreshes every table, chart and example on every page. On top of that, a small script in your browser re-ticks the headline numbers each minute using the same arithmetic, so a page left open stays current. If scripts are blocked, the page still shows the numbers from the last rebuild with their timestamp. Because the data come from public feeds, a figure can lag the market by a short time, and you should not use this site to time a trade. For a purchase or sale, ask the counterparty for the live quote.

Editorial standards

We hold the site to a few rules that we apply to every page.

  1. Numbers have a source. Every price is generated from the data feeds above, and every rule or specification traces to a named public source.
  2. Honest scope. A gold value chart shows melt value, the worth of the metal. It is not a dealer quote or a payout, and each page where that matters says so.
  3. Ranges are labeled. When we cite what buyers typically pay or charge, we call them ranges reported by the trade and never present them as an offer.
  4. No hype. We do not forecast prices or tell you gold is a good or bad idea. History is shown as history.
  5. Plain language. If a term has a plain equivalent, we use it, and we define the ones we cannot avoid.

Corrections

We make mistakes, and we fix them. When we find an error in a number, a rule or a specification, we correct the page and record the change in that page's update history. We do not publish a contact form or inbox on this site, so corrections are made when we find them, through our own review and checks against the sources.

Advertising disclosure

Gold Value Chart is free to use and funded by advertising relationships. We have an affiliate arrangement with Augusta Precious Metals. When you click a button or link to Augusta on this site and later make a purchase, we may receive a commission from Augusta. The price you pay is not increased because you came through us.

This relationship is the reason we recommend Augusta, and it creates a financial incentive that you should weigh. To limit its effect, we state who the company is not for, including that its $50,000 minimum rules out a single coin, and we report facts about it from public sources, including that one complaint was on file with the BBB in the last three years as of September 2026. Links to Augusta are marked as sponsored. We do not accept payment to change a gold value, and the calculators and tables do not depend on any advertiser. You can see what we recommend and why in where to buy gold.

What the site cannot do

We cannot appraise your item, tell you what a particular buyer will pay, or advise you on taxes or retirement accounts. For any of those, a licensed professional or a trusted local dealer is the right resource. For everything else, start with the gold value calculator, browse the gold value by karat table, or read how to read a gold value chart.
